Rob Swift

If you love the art of the "Scratch" ...Then these albums are for you. Turntablist Rob Swift was born Robert Aguilar in Jackson Heights, a neighborhood of Queens. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by cutting-edge jazz artist Herbie Hancock as well as the more typical DJ heroes like Grandmaster Flash, Grand Wizard Theodore, and DJ Premier. After graduating from Baruch College with a degree in psychology, Swift joined one of the top scratching groups of the '90s, the X-Men (later known as the X-Ecutioners). I have more Swift albums but IMO these 2 albums are his best work.

Tame One (The Artifacts)

For all those who don't know Tame One was one half of the rap group The Artifacts. Few headz from the New Jersey or the tri-state have represented the elements of hip-hop as well as Tame One. Known for both his vocal presence on the mic and his trademark graffiti, Tame One brings a classical element of style and grace to the rap music scene, and the hip-hop culture in general, that few artists can rival.

These are just a few of the Tame One solo projects since his artifacts days. "The Grudge" just dropped a few weeks ago & is on constant rotation on my I-Pod & in my 98 " on it's last few miles" Ford Explorer. Spazmatic is most def an album ALL of you should grab ...It's so different than anything else out there right now & stays true to REAL hip hop!

Mic Geronimo's 90's Classics

The Natural (1995) Slept on Classic!!! check it out for yourself. Now people consider this ol' school. I remember when this joint came out "Ish is real" and "Masta I.C." were in the deck in heavy rotation. This was when nobody knew Irv Gotti, Ja Rule, DMX or Jay-Z and they were all a part of this LP. Unfortunately, Mic Geronimo never got the credit that his counterparts did, but I honestly think his 1st LP was better than the other artist's cataloge.
Vendetta (1997)
Mic Geronimo did an excellent job with this album. Unfortunately, due to the lack of promotion and marketing, this album didn't sold very well. The best songs on the album are "Usual Suspects", "Unstoppable", and "Street Life". Overall, this is a true gem and it always seems that the truly talented get push aside while the untalented ones (Such as Nelly, Lloyd Banks, and Jermaine Dupri) get all the fame and fortune. In conclusion, if you love East Coast Rap, you need get a copy of this, you won't be disappointed.

Nine

Nine .... where to begin he dropped the album nine livez with the classic tracks Redrum and Whatcha Want. A truely gifted MC with raw sound who basically disappeared from the scene Completely. He was a Funkmaster Flex protege revered by those who place an equal focus on the beats and production - in addition to lyrical dexterity of an emcees delivery. With a respectful nod towards the old school with a liberal peppering of MC Shan and Run DMC samples, Nine spit the grittier, harder edged NY street style.

Best Of Jeru The Damaja (Crooklyn's Classic Mix)

Jeru the Damaja had an under the radar beef with fellow Brooklyn head , The Notorious B.I.G.. It may have started with Jeru's song "One Day" from his second album where he claimed that Bad Boy Records was kidnapping hip hop music. Although, Notorious B.I.G. was not mentioned by name like his business partner and friend Puff Daddy, he took offense and responded with "Kick in the Door" from his 1997 album, Life After Death. The track had various disses towards Nas, but it was mainly directed at Jeru the Damaja, and even dissed the track's producer, DJ Premier, for being a partner of Jeru. Jeru the Damaja had previously attacked the song, "Player's Anthem," by Junior M.A.F.I.A. featuring Biggie by responding with "Ya Playin' Yaself." In 1995, Jeru was supposed to be featured on a Ready to Die track named "Brooklyn Niggas," but Puff Daddy took it off to maintain the album's "commercial vision."

Jeru's first two albums were completely produced by DJ Premier, but they suddenly stopped working together after 1996 for unknown reasons. Some speculate that his relationship with Biggie may have caused this. In fact, the beat of Notorious B.I.G.'s "10 Crack Commandments" was originally used as a Hot 97 promo beat for Jeru the Damaja. Most consider Jeru's feud with Premier to be a result of financial disputes. Jeru the Damaja made an unreleased song named "Friends" as a diss to the whole Gang Starr Foundation of which DJ Premier is the co-leader.

Jeru dissed The Fugees on his 1996 song, "Black Cowboys," while The Fugees responded in the same year with "Zealots." Jeru also dissed Blahzay Blahzay on his 1996 song "Whatever," on which he claimed that he stole his style.

Main Source

It was 1991...hip hop was in its creative peak. A man named Large Professor was creating SLAMMIN' beats on his sp 1200. Classic emceeing backed by timeless music makes for one of the greatest groups in hip hop history, and one of the greatest albums ever created...1991's Breaking Atoms.

Redman

Why is it that when headz debate on who's the dopest rapper Redman never pops up in the conversation? Yea..he's a party rapper & he has never made a 5 Mic album...but to me Red is the most underated MC in the game. Some can argue he was the most consistant cat in the game since 1990. Ive always been a big fan of Reggie Noble & his tracks fit just right when u light up that blunt, sit back, & listen to the Boodah MC in his adventures as Superman Lover.

Diamond D

"Although I hit a pound of herbs I'm still nice with the verbs......So fuck what you heard" Diamond D has long been one of the nicest producers in hip hop. The beats & loops he brings to the table are 9 times out 10 on fire. I will even check an album just because he was involved with it. Back in 1992 D came out with his debut album 'Stunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop', and blew everyone out the water. As some have said parts of this album sound its age these days but to me thats a beautiful thing. The hip hop of this era was the greatest and Diamond takes me back. The big fellas not a great emcee but hes got a cool, fun style and all the beats are hot. This is your basic 'beats & rhymes'-type album, and you can just play it front to back and get nicely blunted.
