Paris
Paris hails from the San Francisco Bay Area and was catapulted into the national scene in 1990 "The Devil Made Me Do It" and album of the same name. Since then his uncompromising stance on political issues and biting social commentary have both aided and hindered his quest to bring solid music and messages to the masses. When his second album, Sleeping With The Enemy was ready for release in 1992, Paris was dropped from now-defunct Tommy Boy Records and distributor Time Warner when they discovered its incendiary content - content which included fantasy revenge killings of then-President Bush and racist police officers. sleping with the enemy is one of my favorite albums. listening to it and the skits is a bit like watching pulp fiction crossed with a horror movie.
definitely one of the most slept-on mc's from the west coast, he sounds like a west coast rakim,and he's very angry, which i like, ive always liked angry mc's (no homo), ive been wanting to hear the devil made me do it, that is a dark ass album, and its good, the production is ahead of its time, but i have to choose sleeping with the enemy, the production is crazy and jazzy, and some of the song has that same type of production style from his first album, my standout tracks are days of old (i first heard this song on the 1993 movie strapped with fredro star and bokeem woodbine, a underrated hood classic, also this is both fredro's and bokeem's first film appearance and also the first movie forest whitaker directed), and assata's song (i love that beat), and guerilla funk is straight garbage, peace.
